16 Encouraging Bible Verses for Hard Times (KJV)

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Five promises in one verse for when fear will not lift — presence, strength, help, and holding.

"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee."

Through deep water and fire alike — not around them, but through, with Him beside you.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

For the darkest valleys — grief, diagnosis, loss. Fear eases because He walks through it with you.

"The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles."

Crying out is not weakness — it is the trigger for God hearing and delivering.

"For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after."

God's own promise of restored health and healed wounds — He has not forgotten you.

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness: most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Weakness is where Christ's strength shows up best — His grace is enough for this.

"We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;"

Pressed but not crushed — four contrasts proving trouble never gets the last word.

"The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him."

On your worst day God is still good — a fortress, and He knows you by name inside it.

"Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."

Hand the weight over — God both carries it and keeps you standing under it.

"For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

Tonight's tears have an expiry date — morning joy is coming.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

When nothing makes sense — God is weaving even this into good for those who love Him.

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Jesus speaks directly to the exhausted — come as you are, and rest is His promise.

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Trouble is promised — but so is the greater promise: the world has already been overcome.
